As a result of damages suffered from hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in September 2004, in early 2005 Beach County and its 37 municipalities became eligible to apply for nearly $19 million in post disaster mitigation funds under FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). Through the County's Local Mitigation Strategy program, a total of 37 projects, including 17 significant drainage improvement projects were prepared and submitted for HMGP consideration. Eligible projects should be funded sometime during the summer of 2005. Submitted projects include:
