Palm Beach County is the largest of Florida's sixty-seven counties. The County's 2,268 square miles include 2,023 square miles of land and 245 square miles of surface water, making it the largest county east of the Mississippi River . The county has 45 miles of shoreline. Palm Beach County's wet season extends from June through October, although significant rain events can and do occur year round. Average annual rainfall for the area is 61.7 inches. As a relatively flat, low lying, heavily developed coastal county that experiences frequent intense rain events and periodic tropical storms, Palm Beach County is especially susceptible to flooding. |
