Emergency Management - Mitigation Assistance

 

Mitigation Assistance Funding Sources

A number of governmental and non-governmental sources provide funding assistance for qualifying mitigation projects. Each fund source has its own criteria for eligibility and evaluative criteria for awarding funds. Most funding sources require that projects be endorsed by and carried on the prioritized project list of the LMS. Principal funding sources include:

The Pre Disaster Mitigation Program is a competitive grant program developed to assist communities implement hazard mitigation related activities in order to avert future disasters. PDM is a proactive program that aims to reduce natural and technological risks to populations and structures before a disaster occurs.

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program is a post-disaster program that can be used to fund projects to protect either public or private property such as flood proofing or installation of hurricane shutters or property acquisition, relocation, or elevation to protect structures from future disasters.

The Flood Mitigation Assistance Program provides pre-disaster funding for retrofitting repetitively flooded structures.
