RACES provides a trained pool of Amateur Radio operators for emergency operations in Palm Beach County. These communicators are assigned to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and shelters. They are also assigned to requesting area hospitals and municipal operations centers. RACES is run under the authority of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in cooperation and coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). RACES also provides communications for public service events such as the March of Dimes and the MS Walk-A-Thon, coordinates with the Palm Beach County Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) to help fill communications needs, and holds weekly radio nets for practice and training. In Palm Beach County, RACES has approximately 180 members.
