The Long Range Planning Section is responsible for the County's long range
planning initiatives, including managing the Comprehensive Plan
and coordinating its implementation with the appropriate departments and the public. This section is also involved in the processing of Plan amendments. Plan amendments are coordinated with the Division’s Administration, the Current planning section, and with other local, regional and state review agencies.
Plan implementation includes developing programs and coordinating with other agencies elected officials, and the public on topics such as sustainable development, the provision of attainable housing, the preservation of agriculture and agricultural lands, addressing regional water management, water supply, natural system restoration and climate change issues, or assisting residents in the development and implementation of community plans.
Maintaining and updating the Plan is accomplished through periodic assessment of goals, objectives and policies in response to changing conditions, recommending any needed Plan amendments and carrying out new directions from the Board, addressing any new statutory requirements, and responding to public needs and interests.
The Long Range Planning Section also provides assistance to the Division, the Department, other agencies and the County Administration on Plan policy interpretation and in making sure their related actions are consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.
