The Architecture Review Section was created in 2001 with the adoption of the Architectural Design Guidelines (ADG). The ADG was created to establish minimum Architectural design standards for development within the unincorporated areas of Palm Beach County. The goal is to encourage quality development, making Palm Beach County a distinct and unique place to live, work and visit.
The Architecture Review Section reviews projects not only for compliance with the ADG, but also other design guidelines within the ULDC. The Rural Design Guidelines were established in 2001 for the Rural and Exurban Tiers. Their intent is to distinguish these areas from the Urban/Suburban districts, not only by land development regulations, but by architectural style and design as well. Several Overlay districts within the County also specify distinct regulations by requiring architectural features and details, ensuring compatible development within these neighborhoods.
Compatibility with existing structures and land forms is required for all proposed or redeveloped buildings. Detailed building elevations and site plans including details of rooflines, facade treatment, fenestration, entries, pedestrian amenities, focal points, and walkways should be submitted for review. The final design of a project will be approved when consistent with the goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Plan and the ULDC.
