Introduction Video RealPlayer icon
This subcommittee was established to discuss existing conditions in the equestrian and agribusiness industries. Two distinct areas, the midwestern communities between State Road 7 and 20-Mile Bend and the Glades region, provide unique challenges and opportunities. This group is examining equestrian-based case studies such as Lexington, Kentucky and Ocala, Florida, as well as rural lakefront agriculture areas experiencing disinvestment. Because of high unemployment in the Lake Communities, special emphasis has been placed on implementation of the 2002 Strategic Economic Plan for the Glades. The group is studying cargo airport and attached-business park facilities for agribusiness, second-tier Scripps airport business park uses, a large regional farmers market, the immediate need for hotel development, sponsored bass fishing and new Lake Okeechobee-oriented recreational activities.
