Anne M. Gannon was elected Tax Collector for Palm Beach County in November 2006 for a two year term due to the early retirement of the previous tax collector. She was subsequently re-elected in 2008 for a second term.
Anne was elected to the Florida House of Representatives on November 7, 2000 and re-elected subsequently to represent House District 86 in Palm Beach County, Florida. She was chosen as the House of Representatives’ Democratic Leader Pro Tempore for the 2004-2006 legislative sessions. Her committee assignments included: Insurance Committee, Health Care Appropriations Committee, Ethics and Elections Committee, and Rules and Calendar Council. She was also appointed to serve on the Select Committee on Medicaid Reform.
Anne has been honored for her contributions to many diverse civic groups. She has been named Legislator of the Year by the League of Conservation Voters, the Distinguished Civic Achievement Award by the American Jewish Congress Southeast Division, Champion for Choice Award by Planned Parenthood, Annette Van Howe Failure is Impossible Award by the Florida Women’s Consortium and the Florida Council against Sexual Violence by creating the Anne Gannon Warrior for Women Award named on her behalf. This award is given to individuals deemed worthy for outstanding effort for the protection of women and children against sexual violence. The National Organization for Women at FAU recognized her for efforts to improve lighting and security on campus. In 2007 Compass awarded her the Plakas Leadership Award.
Recently the Public Relations Council of Palm Beach awarded the Tax Collector’s office three Palm Awards for website design, collateral materials for clients and the email newsletter “Tax Talk.”
Anne grew up on one of the largest farms in southwestern Ohio with her six siblings. She has resided in Delray Beach, Florida since 1983. She is the former owner of a professional consulting organization with an office in Delray Beach specializing in governmental relations.
Anne has served on many community boards including Pineapple Grove Main Street, Community Childcare Center, Healthy Mother Healthy Babies, and Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse; she currently serves on the board of JFK Medical Center and the Pineapple Grove Board. Her passion and commitment to equal opportunity activism is highlighted by her roles as a member of Democratic Executive Committee and as the former President of the South Palm Beach County National Organization for Women.
Anne’s unique background in both industry and government, combined with her civic activities, provide her with an integral understanding of Palm Beach County. Her skills as an administrator, organizer, and problem solver enable Anne to lead effectively, equitably and efficiently. Her charismatic approach and limitless energy are vital in her new role as Tax Collector.
