2nd Annual Helmet for the Holidays Campaign

As the holiday season nears, the Palm Beach County Tax Collector continues to support our deployed service men and women through Forgotten Soldiers Outreach (FSO), an organization that sends monthly “we care” packages to soldiers who may not otherwise receive them. Last year, Bryan Hyland, Project Manager for the Palm Beach County Tax Collector and architect of the holiday fundraising effort, organized this campaign called “Helmets for the Holidays”.

The Tax Collector’s staff sold “Helmets for the Holidays” postcards for $1 each that were used to write an encouraging or inspirational message to a soldier. These postcards will be collected and included with the care packages sent to the troops during the holidays. The proceeds will help pay for postage to send the care packages.

The first Saturday of each month is a packing day and the Tax Collector’s Office provided coffee and donuts for the volunteers for the November packing day. Volunteers are welcome at the next packing day on December 6, 2008.

The “Helmets for the Holidays” plan is so popular that many companies around the county are adopting the fund-raising program. For more information about Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, a national 501(c)(3) charitable organization registered with the State of Florida please log on to www.forgottensoldiers.org or call 561-369-2933.

The members of the United States Armed Forces and their loved ones make immense sacrifices in the name of our country and deserve heartfelt thanks. We express our gratitude by getting behind an organization such as Forgotten Soldiers Outreach and encouraging men and women abroad fighting for our great nation.
