Specialty License Plate Gift Certificate Program

Do you have the birthday of a loved one or friend coming up and are unsure of what gift to give? Would you like to support a Florida sports team, college/university, cause or organization? If so, a specialty license plate gift certificate may be the answer to your dilemma.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has authorized the issuance of a specialty license plate gift certificate. This new program allows anyone to purchase a specialty license plate as a gift for a motor vehicle registrant.

This new gift certificate program works much like any gift certificate. Once payment of the specialty license plate fee (a fee charged above the standard license plate fee) is made, a receipt will be provided and a credit issued in the name of the gift recipient. The gift certificate (credit) can be redeemed at any of our six conveniently located Service Centers to purchase the specialty plate. The gift certificate is not required to be presented to redeem credit, just proper identification.

Specialty license plates make novel gifts and this new program will provide a great opportunity to promote many causes and organizations represented by the plates. Please remember that in Florida, most registrations are renewed on the birth date of the registrant, so these gift certificates can also be an excellent birthday gift.

Specialty license plate fees are charged annually in addition to the regular vehicle registrations fees and the fees vary based on the type of license plate. The plate owner will be responsible for the additional fees annually.
