Taxpayers who object to their assessment or their
exemption status may appeal to the Value Adjustment
Board (VAB). The Board consists of 3 county commissioners
and 2 school board members. The VAB approved allowing
petitioners whose appeals were denied the right to request
a second hearing for 2007. The last scheduled hearings
for 2007 will be completed in mid-February. Over 10,000
petitions were fi led this year and it is unknown how many
petitioners will want a second hearing if they are denied
relief the fi rst time. Upon completion, the VAB will send
out “Record of Decision” forms and “Request for Review”
sheets to all petitioners. Petitioners pursuing a second
hearing will have 15 days from the date of mailing of the
forms to fi le their request. Another VAB meeting will be
held to determine which petitioners will be granted a
second hearing. This action, as it did last year, will affect
the Tax Collector’s ability to issue refunds to taxpayers
who have paid and were granted reductions, and issue
corrected notices to those who have not paid. The Tax
Collector’s Offi ce is working closely with the VAB and will
keep the public informed of the latest developments.
