January 29 Election Overview

Florida voters will have the opportunity to vote on several federal, state and local issues on January 29, 2008.   

Federal

Registered Democrats and Republicans will each choose their presidential candidate for the Primary Election being held in August. 

State

Florida residents will vote on a proposed Constitutional Amendment on property tax reform, including:

  • Portability
  • Doubling Homestead Exemption
  • 10% Assessment Cap for Non-Homestead Property (similar to 3% SOH cap for homestead property)
  • $25,000 Tangible Personal Property Exemptions for businesses

Visit the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser's website ( www.pbcgov.com/PAPA) to determine the impact of these changes to your family.  The calculator is located inside the box entitled Property Appraiser News on the right side of the website.

Local

Residents of Hypoluxo and Royal Palm Beach are voting on open council seats and residents of Lake Worth are voting on city charter amendments.

You are strongly encouraged to request an absentee ballot and submit the ballot prior to January 29, 2008. Additionally,  early voting begins January 14, 2008 and ends January 27, 2008. The Supervisor of Elections website ( https://www.pbcelections.org) has information on registering to vote and requesting absentee ballots. 

The right to vote is one of the most fundamental liberties we enjoy as Americans and it is also one of our greatest civic responsibilities. Please take the time to become informed on the candidates and issues on the January 29 ballot.
