Don’t forget Mom! Mother’s Day is May 11*

An early childhood memory is sitting on my mom’s lap by the kitchen window and asking her “why does it rain?” “The flowers need rain to grow. All the trees and grass get thirsty too. The birds enjoy taking a bath and cleaning their feathers. Rain gives the earth a good cleaning.” Definitely words of wisdom a four year old will soak in. Mom’s words have often echoed in my mind when it rains. At ninety three, she still sheds light on the issues of the day and as friends and family can attest, hasn’t lost her magic in the kitchen.

With Mother’s Day on May 11 th, I look back on this special day and how it was spent over the years. All the funny little gifts and cards I made in school, mom always treasured and kept in a special place. I’m not certain, but it’s possible she still has a few hidden somewhere!

How do we celebrate our moms these days? If we’re lucky, we still have them, and if not, the memories are golden. In either case, we hold them in our hearts, forever locked in that special place.
