Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) prioritizes the safety of our community through comprehensive fire and life safety inspections. These inspections are conducted by our Inspection Branch to ensure compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC) and any local amendments implemented by Palm Beach County.

Educate, Identify, Prevent

Our inspections go beyond simply checking boxes. Our inspectors focus on educating property and business owners, or their designated representatives, on how to identify and prevent fire hazards. This collaborative approach empowers you to maintain a safe environment for your employees, customers, and our first responders.

Addressing Deficiencies

Many fire safety issues identified during inspections can be rectified on-site. For those requiring more time, a reasonable timeframe (typically 14 days) is provided for correction. If extenuating circumstances exist, our inspectors will work with you to find solutions and ensure progress towards compliance.

Immediate Attention Required

There are however, certain critical deficiencies that require immediate attention. Inoperable fire sprinkler systems or fire alarms are prime examples. Failure to address these issues promptly may result in temporary closure of your occupancy until safety measures are rectified.

Existing Inspections Branch Responsibilities

Conducting field inspections
Identifying applicable codes/standards
Preparing inspections reports
Investigating and resolving complaints
Participating in legal proceedings with County Code Enforcement and municipalities’ special magistrates
Permits and building processes associated with life safety
Emergency planning/preparedness, especially for Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs)
Review Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans (CEMP)
Additional inspection activites such as re-inspections, fire watch, etc.
Manage life safety for special events (fireworks, concerts, food trucks, etc.) from site planning to ensuring the events do not exceed maximum occupancy counts
